Helping Kids at the Breakfast Club By: Alejandro Correa-Alejo and Claire Liang September 21, 2019 We went to an event called Kids Breakfast Club where we helped make breakfast for elementary kids. We made eggs and pancakes for the young kids and we also made art with them. Then at some point, we began reading to the kids although they weren't very cooperative. Besides being involved with the kids, we also made some posters for them as well. All of us felt really good giving back to the community and knowing that we made an impact on the kids' lives as well as feeling happy about ourselves too. All in all, it was a great pleasure working with the kids in our community and plan on going back again! |
Helping Turn the Tide on Trash By: Claire Liang September 21, 2019 15 members came out to the Hayward Shoreline for National Coastal Clean Up Day. It was an Interkey Event so many of our members were members from both Key Club and Interact. There were also many members from other clubs from other schools. We split into groups and went to pick up trash; we had to keep track of what we picked up so people understand what trash that doesn't get into trash cans. All of us had fun and were socializing while picking up trash at the same time. It was a really fun experience and we're very proud of how many members showed up. It really shows how they really care about our environment and help make the world a better place by cleaning up the trash. |

Helping Out Those In Need By Adrian Yumul August 29, 2019 Three of our officers went to Bethel Presbyterian Church in San Leandro in order to help with their weekly food bank. Every Thursday, the church gives large amounts of food to people in need. We began the day volunteering with unpackaging the many various cans and other items to put out for those we would be serving. After setting out the food, we were given the task of handing out bags of fruit to those who want it. There were a lot of people who came to get food from the church and there was also many food items to give out. As the day went on, we became happy knowing that we are able to support the people who are struggling and need help. After distributing the food, we cleaned up for a little bit and headed home. We plan on continuing to volunteer at their weekly food bank and we were glad to be apart of this event. Overall, it was an amazing experience. |

Supporting Any Way We Can By Emile Convocar August 18, 2019 Even though I had more responsibility then I typically did at service events and was the only officer and person from our club who had attended this event, it was a great experience. There were a lot of volunteers and the event was efficiently organized. I even got a free shirt for volunteering. All the proceeds that were raised at this event would go towards the facilities and the planned projects in the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center. |

Saving The World One Step at a Time By Claire Liang July 27, 2019 On July 27, three of our officers and one member took on a Keep Hayward Clean and Green event around the Tennyson neighborhood. Some of us picked up trash in the neighborhood and some of us even planted trees. Officers and members that went received four community service hours and was helping a good cause as well! We even got free snow cones for helping. They hold these events every month at different locations in Hayward and we plan on going back. We laughed and made jokes while picking up trash and planting trees and it was a really good experience in general. It felt really good helping out the environment by doing something that would help it. Despite our world being in a bad place right now, we made a difference that day and we can’t wait to go to another one of these events! |
